I've lived in Islip for 50 years, and I really enjoyed the oral history video, and really think it should be expanded upon to include a few things that came to mind as suggestions. First, I would think a map showing some of the places mentioned could be edited in during times when they are mentioned. I was getting confused as to where some of the places were. A printed map could be included with the video if necessary. Also, I would have liked the photos captioned as to name and place. Other than that, I hope this or something like it is turned into a book as a companion available to library patrons. I'd love it. I'm as interested in photos from the 1950's-1980's, because many places have changed or are no longer here. My fondest memories include visiting the old Islip Library in the 1960's, and it feeling like I walked in on the past in a way. It felt important, warm, a place of learning and contemplation, and a place where I could find out anything, which it still is now, but on a larger scale. One story mentioned was the one about Robert F. Kennedy coming to Islip to campaign. My memory is different. I recall his coming, but in 1967 or 1968, either when he was running for President, or just before. I waited outside with my brother, but very dissapointed, we never saw RFK.

Robert,
Thank you for sharing your comments and memories of the library.
Although we appreciate your suggestions, the DVD is considered to be a finished product.
The identification of the photographs used in the DVD are from a photo album we have in our
Local History Room. If you come to the Reference Desk, a librarian will be happy to show you the album!
